English Conversation & Coffee

One of TWR’s most popular regular activities is our English Conversation & Coffee sessions. These are informal sessions held weekly that offer a regular, safe and welcoming occasion for resettled families to come together with local volunteers. We pair individuals with a local volunteer, and they converse in English for the first hour. They can use some of the stimulating materials that we provide to facilitate conversations. The second hour is more sociable with coffee and biscuits provided.
All the participants together enjoy communal games with a language focus. This project complements the formal ESOL teaching offered by resettlement authorities. It provides a supportive opportunity to practice English and gain confidence. It encourages cultural exchange that increases understanding and empathy in both directions. It fosters relationships both within the resettled community and with local volunteers.

We have recently extended these sessions to give attendees an opportunity to improve their computer skills (as pictured).

The sessions run during term-time at 11:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Taunton and on Wednesdays in Bridgwater. Do get in touch if you are interested in joining us as either a volunteer or because you wish to improve your English.

TWR are grateful to the following organisations for their financial support that enables us to continue and expand these sessions.

Thanks are also due to SCHol Tech who have provided us with the refurbished laptops for use during computer training sessions.
